What you need to know about the German Erbschein
If you have inherited — or expect to inherit — assets in Germany, there is one
document that will almost always cross your desk: the ERBSCHEIN, Germany’s official certificate of inheritance.
In my new video I walk through what heirs, co-heirs and executors really need to know:
· What an Erbschein is — and how it differs from a U.S. letter testamentary or letter of administration
· Why it is typically indispensable to unlock German bank accounts, transfer real estate in the Grundbuch, or deal with German insurers
· When an Erbschein is required
· How to apply for one from the United States, including the eidesstattliche Versicherung before a German consulate or U.S. notary with apostille
· How long it realistically takes
