What we do
The German side of your family’s affairs
We advise US heirs of German estates, German residents who inherit from the US, and families who want to plan ahead in both countries — with one point of contact for everything that happens in Germany.
A US trust works in the US. Germany may see it very differently.
Once a beneficiary lives in Germany, the German tax office forms its own view of the trust. Distributions can trigger German inheritance tax — possibly in the least favourable tax class — as well as income tax. The earlier the trust is reviewed, the more can still be changed.

About me
Munich-born. Trained on three continents. Now in Denver.
I grew up in Munich, studied law in Passau (First Bar Exam), at the University of Cape Town (LL.M., Master of Laws) and in Potsdam (Second Bar Exam), worked for the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin and at the German Embassy in Colombo, and practised at international law firms in London, Berlin and Munich and at our partner office in Miesbach, before moving to Colorado in 2021.
I know how it feels to live between two countries. My job is to make German law understandable — and to take the weight off your shoulders.

What might still be holding you back
Do I have to travel to Germany?
In most cases, no. Signatures and sworn statements can usually be given at a German consulate in the US or before a US notary with an apostille. We tell you exactly what to sign and where.
What does it cost?
The first 15-minute call is free. A German Letter Review costs USD 300 and is credited if you engage us. For everything else, you receive a written fee proposal before any work starts.
Can we speak German?
Of course. We advise in English and German — and Nicola also speaks Italian. Sie sprechen lieber Deutsch? Gerne.
Do you also advise on US law?
No. We advise on German law and work alongside your US attorney or CPA, who covers the US side.
Do you only handle cases in Bavaria?
No. Together with our partner office in Miesbach, we handle cases across all of Germany.
