When I opened this practice in Denver, the idea was narrow on purpose: German inheritance law, for people whose lives are in the United States. No general practice, no everything-for-everyone. Just the one thing that almost nobody does — the place where a German Nachlass meets an American family.
That decision has worked out. Over the past years the caseload has grown steadily: certificates of inheritance for heirs who have never set foot in Germany, estates split across two legal systems and two tax authorities, chains of documents reaching back a century and across an ocean.
Which brings me to the point of this post. I am hiring.
What this means for our clients
Growth is only good news if it shows up as better service. Adding a second German-qualified lawyer to the practice means shorter turnaround on court and tax office correspondence, more capacity for the document work that drives every cross-border estate, and a second set of trained eyes on the questions where German and U.S. law meet.
Nothing changes about how your matter is handled. I remain personally responsible for every file. What changes is how quickly the work behind it moves.
The position
I am looking for a German-qualified lawyer (Volljuristin oder Volljurist, second state examination) to work on cross-border estates between Germany and the United States: certificates of inheritance under §§ 2353 ff. of the German Civil Code, European Certificates of Succession, correspondence with German probate courts and tax authorities, German inheritance tax and the 1980 German-U.S. estate tax treaty, compulsory share claims, estate distribution, and cross-border estate planning.
The role is fully location-independent — from Germany or from the United States — and available part-time from 20 hours per week or full-time. Prior experience in inheritance law is expressly not required.
